As of August 1, 2025, the HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities continues its operations as the ELTE Research Centre for the Humanities.
This transformation was implemented based on Resolution No. 22/2025. (VI. 20.) of the Governing Board of the HUN-REN Centre and Resolution No. CXCI/2025. (VII. 07.) of the Senate of Eötvös Loránd University. The reorganization was carried out pursuant to Section 14/A of Act CCIV of 2011 on National Higher Education.
Previously operating under the HUN-REN Hungarian Research Network, the institution now functions as an organizational unit with legal personality under the direct authority of the Rector of Eötvös Loránd University. It is the legal successor to the former HUN-REN Research Centre for the Humanities in all legal relationships and obligations.
Within ELTE, the Research Centre maintains a high degree of autonomy: it has its own treasury identification number, tax number, and bank account number; it operates with separate financial management, applies independently for research funding, and is directly connected to the treasury's payroll and other systems. Employment relationships of the staff continue uninterrupted, under unchanged conditions.
Statements on the transition of the research centres from HUN-REN to ELTE have been issued by the leadership of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) and the Chancellor of ELTE. These are available at the following links:
