Absztrakt:
This presentation considers the origins of the International Nuclear Information System (INIS), an indexing and abstracting database put into operation by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 1970. It considers the significance of INIS in the history of the IAEA as well as in the wider history of science and technology at the time of its creation and early operation in the early 1970s. To do so, it considers the concept of technodiplomacy as a descriptive and analytical tool for illuminating the transnational and at times international nature of networks of technoscientific know-how and for illustrating the significance of these networks and other technoscientific systems for international relations. Doing so underlines the importance of the IAEA as an international technoscientific information management organization and suggests technodiplomatic infrastructures were significant factors in the global technopolitics of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
